Duckling "Mommy Dearest"
"No more wire cages!" I deserve that after not insisting on what I know to be the proper way to prepare the ducklings floor space. Accidents happen, but this was totally preventable. The first Xray shows a side view of the luxated (twisted) knee. The second shows the knee after it was realigned. ![]() ![]() This is what can happen when you use wire mesh cages without adequate protection. Use towels, fleece, anything to cover a bare bottomed floor. Not just where they rest, but everywhere they walk. If it's a solid floor they can develop splay leg or other injuries if they don't have a good gripping surface. Even a piece of pond liner is better than nothing.
